President
Emily Guo
Hi everyone! I’m Emily, I’m currently studying law and commerce (accounting) and I’m so very excited to be running as your 2026 SULS President :)

I was born in Shanghai, China, and moved to Australia when I was 7 years old. In 2023, I moved to Sydney by myself to start my first year at USYD - I was so nervous about living alone for the first time, but also extremely excited for my new-founded freedom! Above all, I was keen to make friends and find my footing in law school - so I turned to SULS! 2 years later, I’ve made some of my favourite memories through SULS and have met some of my favourite people through SULS. My motivation for running as your 2026 SULS President is simple: together with the executive team, we want you to help create that same experience for all students.

My vision for SULS in the upcoming year focuses on three key words - accessibility, support and receptiveness.

I hope you enjoy the website and reading through everyone’s policies and ideas for SULS next year - so make yourself a cup of tea, heat up some popcorn and get comfy! I’m so incredibly proud of everyone on the team - their passion to improve the society is contagious and radiates so brightly!

Tuned In to You, Tuned In to SULS - vote for us on Tuesday November 4 - Friday November 7 - your vote counts.

Accessibility
-
More digestible and convenient information channels: Navigating and understanding the initiatives and upcoming SULS events can sometimes feel overwhelming. Studying law is already hard enough as it is, so I want to ensure that being involved in SULS is as easy as possible. This includes making existing information channels more digestible and creating new forms of advertising SULS’ many offerings, for example, through a new SULS e-calendar - so you never miss an event again!
-
Demystifying SULS initiatives: SULS offers you both social events and initiatives targeted at professional development - it is truly the heart of law school! However, I think an issue that often prevents students from being involved is not knowing what the time commitment is and exactly what is involved in each event or initiative. Next year, I wish to increase engagement with the student body by demystifying the offerings of SULS so all students are clear about exactly what is involved, what the time commitment is, and how you can be involved.
Support
-
Offering guidance to the exec team: This year, I was fortunate enough to be on the Executive Team as a Competitions Director. Through my experience of leading and supporting a team of over 50 students, I wish to create a welcoming working atmosphere next year, where the executive team feels supported bringing their visions to life and make meaningful improvements to better the student body.
-
Focus on autonomous portfolios: Next year, I would like to offer my unwavering support to the autonomous portfolio holders in achieving their goals and visions for SULS next year. I would like to enhance their visibility and to foster greater collaboration with the non-autonomous portfolios. Importantly, I wish to facilitate more discussions and gain more insights and ideas from the autonomous portfolios on how we can improve SULS next year.
Receptiveness
-
Feedback loop: The value of student feedback should never be understated. I believe that in order to better the society for all students, changes should be sparked by student feedback and real-life concerns, so the society is changing in a way that is tailored to the voices of the student body. So, I would like to establish more ways and methods of receiving student feedback to ensure SULS is, and will continue evolving to be truly representative of the student body
-
Advocating for you: Next year, I want to lead an executive team that will endeavour to use SULS as a platform to provide students with insights into pressing legal issues and proposed law reform relevant to the student body.
