SULS is here for every law student, regardless of cohort, or existing participation. We want you to feel confident to come have a chat with us, hang out in the office, and feel a part of the community. The SULS office is an important space - it’s a common space for students to come hang out, access amenities like free sanitary products, or use the microwave. It’s also where you go when you want to ask questions and get support from the SULS executive, who are always available and eager to chat, through clearly advertised office hours.
-
For the SULS office, I want to create a welcoming space with updated furniture, and an open layout that feels more comfortable and social - the perfect place to hang out between classes, get to know your peers, and have a chat with the exec.
-
I am also excited to introduce new initiatives to foster community, like a submissions box for uplifting contributions to the weekly newsletter, a collaboration with the campus portfolio to feature student achievements each week; a diligently monitored and accessible form for feedback and thoughts; and cohort-specific office hours so each cohort feels heard and facilitates opportunities to connect with your year group!

Governance
-
The behind-the-scenes of SULS can be confusing, but you should be part of the conversation! The discussions and decisions made in the weekly meetings of the executive, as well as SULS General Meetings are for the benefit of everyone, so it’s important that students can participate easily and frequently, and can easily access and understand meeting minutes.
-
I will ensure that the minutes of these meetings are published in a clear format, in an accessible location, with regular updates on where to find them and when they have been posted. Furthermore, I will facilitate direct channels of communication to ensure that all students are a part of the conversation in important decisions. It’s so important that you have the chance to submit feedback, and see your feedback reflected in decision-making, and I would work hard to guarantee that.
-
Every two years, SULS conducts a full review of the constitution! Constitutional review is an important process to ensure that our processes are fair and in line with important regulations. Along with the constitutional review committee, I will ensure this process is rigorous and transparent, to ensure the needs of students are being represented in the SULS constitution, and ensure it is up to date.
-
The review, and constitutional amendments in general, should an open process, and we value the contributions of all students. I will host and publicise a student forum so that you can contribute and be a part of the process. Allowing students to propose amendments and discuss important issues and necessary changes. As part of this process I will publicise accessible information about suggesting constitutional amendments, and being involved in the constitutional review committee.
Keeping YOU in the Loop
-
There’s something for everyone in SULS. At the same time, there can be so much happening that it’s hard to keep track. I’d love to keep you in the know, so you never have to stress over keeping track of events and opportunities.
-
I plan to revamp the SULS online calendar into an actual e-calendar platform, which will allow us to include more information like times, venues, and brief event descriptions to put all your essentials in one place. This will take the confusion and stress out of SULS events and opportunities, and help you make the most of law school.
-
Every day elements of SULS can be very underrated. I will increase direct communications from the executive to students, through executive features in the weekly newsletter, to clearer advertising of office hours, so you don’t have to be unsure where to go when you have questions or need support, including information about specific portfolio’s office hours.
